Loved pretending to be Serena Williams, playing tennis on the property. Also enjoyed exploring the area's "natural beauty" - who knew rocks could be so fascinating? Oh, and the library and laundry facilities were just what my posh-self needed.
I mean, who needs more than one sentence about the Cons? I'll just say that the neighbors kept me up all night with their river antics.

Scenic location, 10kms from main highway. Late arrival, hosts checked on me. Charming old house, cozy wood burning fireplace. Delicious home-cooked food. Friendly hosts, interesting conversations.

The guestrooms at Mairenui Rural Retreat are absolutely cozy and inviting. I loved the fireplaces, which created a warm and homely atmosphere. The laptop-friendly workspaces were a great convenience for me as I needed to catch up on some work during my stay. The seating area and patio in some units made for a nice spot to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Personally, I found that I didn't make much use of the patio during my stay. But hey, that's just me!

We had the most memorable stay at Mairenui Rural Retreat. The property is tucked away on a sheep farm, providing a unique and quirky experience. The accommodation itself is rustic yet fabulous, with a comfortable bed and luxurious bedclothes. The view from our bedroom window was absolutely breathtaking. However, what truly made our stay exceptional were the hosts. Sue cooked us a delicious dinner, and we enjoyed delightful conversations throughout the evening. In the morning, we were treated to a homemade breakfast that was outstanding in every way. I highly recommend this hotel for a wonderful and unforgettable experience.

The location was mind-blowing, feeling remote yet only 15 minutes from the main road. The hosts' extensive travel experiences were evident in their exceptional hospitality, making us feel right at home. The accommodation, spread over four levels in a grove of ancient trees, had a jaw-dropping sloping vista and a cozy log fire. The delicious breakfast had a super variety, especially for plant-based eaters. Sue and David, the owners, were wonderful and even cooked a superb dinner for us. The old farmhouse was filled with memorabilia and antiques, adding to the overall charm. In addition, the location was spectacular, offering canoeing, fishing, and a tennis court. An absolute gem of a retreat destination that we will definitely return to in the future.

I recently stayed at the charming Mairenui Rural Retreat for one night as a stopover during my travels. The historic villa, nestled in a peaceful rural setting, was fully equipped and oozing with character. The wood fire welcomed us warmly and added to the cozy atmosphere. Our hosts, with their wealth of local knowledge, were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. The dinner and breakfast provided were delicious, with homemade touches. The location, though remote-feeling, was actually just a short drive from SH1. a unique and delightful stay.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

The breakfast was bomb, and we even had a dope dinner with our hosts and other guests. The 'villa' we stayed in was straight up fire, with plenty of space and privacy. Sue and David were the real MVPs and made our stay lit AF. We definitely recommend this place, fam!
The only thing we wished for was a lit party scene nearby where we could turn up and have a blast with our squad. Other than that, Mairenui was hella lit and we had a rad time exploring places like Rangatira Golf Club and Mt Stewart Reserve.

Had an amazing weekend getaway in a cozy villa surrounded by nature. Loved exploring the history of the place and the warm hospitality of the hosts. the deck was perfect for relaxing in the sun with a glass of wine. Breakfast served in their interesting home was a delicious and memorable experience. the hosts made us feel right at home and shared fascinating stories with us.
Being in a rural setting, cellphone coverage was a bit spotty at times. However, it was actually a pleasant break from the constant connectivity.
